  1. "When a child is quiet, they are very sick or very hurt."

I think that's it. Couldn't turn it up on the internet, so it was probably a phase by some anonymous local artiste.

  7. Whatever happened to that license plate? Did it go with the van when we sold it?

  9. "spare the rod and spoil the child" took me awhile to fully comprehend this one.

  10. Your dad made the sign on the wall in the kitchen. It was a quote from a man whose wife was dying. They all knew it was inevitable, so they thought they were prepared. However, after the mother died, the dad was reflecting on his kids' behavior.

  11. Wow, I forgot about that glass of water. I still have a glass of water sitting around to drink throughout the day. Even take a glass to bed with me now.

  12. You're all getting switches for Christmas, one from our apple tree and one from Mimi's hedges. See if you can tell the difference. Mimi showed us how to make them nice and smooth. Sorry, kids.

  13. I believe Glory was making coffee at the AICC...and the quote was from Kathy something-or-other on anderson island. It was a classic quote that we kids never let go of, because it rang in our ears for so long. She had a very distinct voice.

Can't wait for my switches! Got some kids need disciplining.

  14. That was a quote from Kathy Isaacson @ her home in Lakewood where she took care of Bert & Betty. I was cooped up in the stuffy, mothball-smellin upstairs, entering her years-old checkbook entries & balances into her computer (real fun). I think Micah did some yardwork, & Glory helped out around the kitchen.
Well... this one day, Bert, who was like 99 and probably couldn't hear a dump truck plowing through a nitro-glycerin factory*, simply asked what Glory was doing in the kitchen.

    Kathy answered, "Glory's making coffee."

    "What?" asked Bert.

"Glory's making coffee." Kathy politely repeated.

    Again... "What?"

    "GLORY'S MAKING COFFEE."

    "What?"

    "GLAWRY'S MAKING CAFFEE!!!"

    "What?"

...and so it went back and forth a half dozen more times until she was nearly screaming, in her raspy voice, right into his wrinkled old face...

    "GLAAAAWRY'S MAAAAKING CAAAAFFEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

That phrase was kept alive by dear Micah who would ramdomly shout it out from time to time. Hilarious!
*grampa joe- national lampoon's christmas vacation.
